About MTAA
The mission of the MTAA is to promote excellence in music therapy practice, education, and development, to further public awareness of music therapy in Alberta, and to serve as an organizational agency for its members.
The MTAA represents certified music therapists at the provincial level. Provincial chapters must operate in accordance with the Canadian Association of Music Therapists (the CAMT) code of ethics and standards of practice, and all active voting members of these chapters must be members in good standing of the CAMT.

Elaine Cheung, MMT, MTA
President
Elaine earned her Master of Music Therapy degree from Wilfrid Laurier
University in Ontario and currently runs a solo private practice in Calgary. Through a humanistic and music-centred approach, she believes in developing a meaningful therapeutic relationship to maximize a person’s potential for change and growth.
Cheryl Vicera, MTA
Treasurer
Cheryl completed her Bachelor of Music Therapy degree at Capilano University in North Vancouver, BC. She currently resides in Edmonton, Alberta, and works primarily with older adults in long term care. She believes in the power of using music to foster strong therapeutic relationships and meaningful change; both intrapersonal and interpersonal.
Jessamy Gray, MTA
Secretary
Jessamy is a graduate of Capilano University’s Music Therapy program with a background in Child & Youth Care and Music through MacEwan University. They are continually awed by the way music therapy facilitates growth and connection, and endlessly curious about music's interactions with the brain. When not providing music therapy to a variety of folks, Jessamy can often be found in a harmony, a board game, or a cozy conversation, delighted to call Edmonton home under the wide prairie skies.
Jean Hinton, MTA
Membership Director
Jean Hinton is a Certified Music Therapist (MTA) based in her hometown of Lethbridge. She holds a Bachelor of Music Therapy degree from Canadian Mennonite University in Winnipeg, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Vocal Performance from King’s University in Edmonton. She is the owner of Coulee Roots Music Therapy and is a facilitator for the Sing It Girls program in Lethbridge.
Leah Callao, BMT, MTA
Member-at-Large
Leah graduated from Capilano University in 2019 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy. Growing up, music and performing has been a key passion in her life. Leah believes music has the power to provide opportunities for her clients to express themselves freely, creatively, and safely. When not working as a Music Therapist, you can find Leah exploring the beautiful Alberta Rockies or enjoying her time working out at the gym.
Bobbi Cerin, BMT, MTA
Member-at-Large
Bobbi is a Certified Music Therapist (MTA) and received her degree from Capilano University. Based in Edmonton, she is the owner of Journey Music Therapy and has graciously had the opportunity to connect and work with a variety of people. Bobbi has always been amazed at how music fosters accessibility, collaboration, creativity and community, and she strives to utilize this in her music therapy approach. Outside of practicing music therapy, you can often find Bobbi hiking or learning a new crafting skill.
