What is a Music Therapist?

DSC_0105_72dpiA Music Therapist Accredited, MTA, has completed Bachelor or Graduate level training in music therapy and a 1000-hour supervised clinical internship.  Accredited music therapists maintain and advance their skills and knowledge through continuing education.  Click here for more information about University training programs in Canada.

Music therapists assess, evaluate and develop clinical goals in consultation with clients, families and other members of the interdisciplinary team.

Music therapist may use a variety of interventions to address the specific needs of music therapy clients.  These interventions may include singing, playing instruments, movement to music, improvisation, composition, songwriting, imagery and music, and listening.
